The Challenge
In July 2005 System Controls Ltd. built an LV switchboard for Montupet -Belfast. Darson Services Ltd initially approached System Controls with the contract to replace the existing Switchboard at the Montupet site. Not only was this switchboard needing designed, built and supplied in a very short time frame, the on-site change-over from existing to new was extremely critical, due to production down time
The Solution
System Controls carried out an initial site survey with both the client and contractor in order to determine their requirements and understand the parameters that needed to be addressed, both in terms of specification and implementation. A specification was agreed on after a few meetings, when all the issues had been addressed and all parties involved understood what was going to happen.
It was agreed to design and build a 1250Amp Buscoupler Change-over Board to supply two 800Amp MCCB Pan Assemblies and metering sections. The Switchboard was built at our Workshop where we used 1250Amp 4-pole ACBs for the main switches and buscoupler. A Castell locking system for the changeover selection and busbars were cut and shaped from 50*10 and 60*10 copper lengths.
The Results
After manufacture the completed board was tested to 2500vac at our premises and checked that it met with the requirements expected from it. Finally the Switchboard was delivered to the Montupet site and successfully installed during the agreed shut-down period.
